Integrated 3D geological modelling of the northern Upper Rhine Graben by joint inversion of gravimetry and magnetic data

The crystalline basement of the Upper Rhine Graben is a major target for deep geothermal exploration due to generally high reservoir temperatures and increased radiogenic heat production. potential strongly dependent on lithology because mainly thermal but also hydraulic properties are affected by rock type. For this reason, so far most detailed 3D model in northern was developed based existing structural models, particular Hesse 2.0 GeORG models. Since only few boreholes fully penetrate thick sediment cover, additional magnetic gravity data provided valuable information geometry horizons. To interpret Bouguer anomalies reasonably with respect basement, regional field sedimentary effect were subtracted from observed data. In comparison commonly applied deterministic modelling approaches, stochastic joint inversion performed that utilizes principles Monte-Carlo-Markov-Chain simulation. an appropriate attribution units, petrophysical databases region have been used addition, susceptibility more than 430 samples measured. High-resolution voxel models density distribution generated as result inversion, which allow conclusions about crustal composition under formations. An interpretative map geology, derived results, presented.
